Dr. Michael G. Durbin, DDS, MS, an orthodontist with offices in Des Plaines and Long Grove, Illinois, has been elected by the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) as its representative on the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
Dr. Patrick Smith has joined the Division of Prevention and Public Health Sciences and the Department of Pediatric Dentistry as Clinical Assistant Professor.
Dr. Lin Chen, Research Associate Professor, and Dr. Praveen Gajendrareddy, Associate Professor, both from the Department of Periodontics, received funding from Colgate Palmolive Co. for a study titled "The effect of Colgate mouthwashes and toothpastes on oral wound healing and expression of epithelial cell tight junction.”
The Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentists awarded its fourth annual Dr. Indru C. Punwani Graduate Student Research Awards at the ISPD meeting at the American Dental Association building in Chicago on April 7.

Dr. Seema Ashrafi, Clinical Associate Professor and Director, Pre-doctoral Periodontics, and Clinical Director of the Advanced Standing Program, was named the 2017 recipient of the College's Jon Daniel Teaching Award.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has awarded the College of Dentistry a $1 million grant for five years to help provide dental students with education and training in the care of children up to five years old.
