Director of Clinical Operations
Department of Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking applications for a full-time Director of Clinical Operations.

This position is responsible for oversight and management of the clinical operations of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic. This includes the clinic’s administrative operations, clinic budget management, regulatory compliance, equipment and capital procurement, development of patient communications, outreach, staff management, scheduling and marketing.  The Director will develop all appropriate guidelines, policies and procedures related to patient care, research, educational programs, clinical compliance while ensuring all clinical operations and program support the Department and the College of Dentistry’s mission.

The minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree preferably in an oral health profession or related field, a minimum of five years experience in progressive clinical administrative responsibilities in an oral health or healthcare organization, and knowledge and experience in an electronic health records or dental health electronic. A masters degree is preferred for this position.  An oral health professional degree and/or licensure in a dental related field is also preferred.  Knowledge in business process improvement, knowledge of technical dental and oral maxillofacial procedures, oral maxillofacial practice experience and/or experience in an academic oral healthcare environment highly preferred. The candidate is expected to have knowledge of budget management and financial information systems while having an understanding of various claim/billing methodologies. Experience in development of systems requirements and implementation of organization-wide applications along with a background in risk management programs and understanding compliance with regulatory health standards are preferred.  The ability to manage people and complex tasks in a busy patient care environment is expected along with good oral and written communication skills, time management skills, stress management, detail oriented, maintaining professional behavior and image, and consistently being flexible and diplomatic.

Director of Group Facilitation
Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences

The University of Illinois College of Dentistry (UIC COD) invites applications for a full-time faculty to serve as Director of Group Facilitation. The position is Open Rank either in Tenure or Non-Tenure Track in the Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences.

The selected individual will be an experienced academic leader in Small Group Learning (SGL) or related pedagogies who will develop, implement and sustain SGL activities in the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) curriculum. Additionally, the individual will have primary responsibilities in providing input and guidance related to the formation of case scenarios used in SGL activities. The Director will lead case-writing, as well as improve, administer, and advance SGL sessions throughout the predoctoral and advanced standing dental degree program. In addition, the Director will participate as SGL facilitator and grader.

Minimum qualifications include a clinical healthcare degree (DDS/DMD) or its foreign equivalent or a PhD in a related field. Three years of experience in problem-based learning or related pedagogical methods in health professions education. Proven record of administrative responsibility. Experience in evidenced-based dentistry, curriculum development and interprofessional education are highly preferred.

Department of Endodontics 

The Department of Endodontics at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking qualified candidates for several faculty positions from 10% FTE to 40% FTE (part-time) in the non-tenure clinical track for the Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral education programs.  The Department of Endodontics aspires to be one of the top clinical endodontic training programs in the world, while actively engaging our residents in important clinical and translational research. The department has responsibility for educational and research programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education levels. An accredited program at the postdoctoral level is available for qualified students wishing to become specialists in endodontics.  The department seeks individuals with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary care and willingness to engage with all departments in the college. Responsibilities will include didactic and clinical teaching responsibilities at the predoctoral and postgraduate levels.

Candidates must have an earned DDS/DMD (or equivalent) degree, be eligible for licensure in Illinois, and have completed a CODA approved Advanced Dental Education Program in Endodontics. Board eligibility is required and board certification in endodontics is preferred. The successful candidate should have a minimum of two years teaching experience in endodontics with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship, scholarship, and service. Extensive clinical experience is desirable. The preferred candidate should demonstrate the ability to promote an equitable, inclusive and diverse scholarly environment. An advanced degree (M.S., MEd, PhD, etc) is desirable. Approximately one day/week intramural or extramural clinical practice opportunity is available.

The Dental Clinic Clerk I is utilized throughout UIC COD in the Pre-doctoral Clinics, Specialty Clinics, and Office for Financial Affairs.  The Dental Clinic Clerk I provides a variety of patient-related dental support functions, which include checking in patients, verifying insurance at the point of contact, establishing and maintaining dental charts, collecting/posting all forms of patient payments, scheduling and confirming appointments and interacting with patients at the UIC College of Dentistry Clinics.

Candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent and must have 12 months of customer service or receivable management experience in a medical and/or dental setting.

Dental Sterilization Technicians perform all duties associated with the sterilization process and dispensing of dental instruments, supplies and equipment used by the dental students and staff at the College of Dentistry.

Candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent and must have 12 months of experience in a medical, health care or laboratory setting or a closely related using sterile procedures or have a current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician from the Certification Board for Sterile Professing and Distribution (CFSPD). The preferred candidate will have knowledge of dental instrumentation, procedures and dental materials, experience operating sterilizing machines and thermal disinfectors and knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control procedures.

Extra Help Dental Assistant I
Dental Assistant Pathway Program (DAPP)

The UIC College of Dentistry is seeking reliable, enthusiastic, self-starting individuals who are looking to enter the field of oral health as an Extra Help Dental Assistant I and participate in the Summer 2025 Cohort of our Dental Assistant Pathway Program (DAPP).  The Summer 2025 Cohort will begin in May 2025.

The College of Dentistry was awarded a 3-year grant from the Otho S. A. Sprague Memorial Institute to support the launch of a Dental Assistant Pathway Program (DAPP), an employee training program that provides young adults, community members, and other individuals interested in the oral health field with a pathway to advance their career as a dental assistant. Through a combination of asynchronous online instruction, in-person classroom lectures, and clinical rotations, participants will receive 15 weeks of on the job foundational training that will prepare them for the Dental Assisting National Board Examination while employed at the College of Dentistry as an Extra Help Dental Assistant I – DAPP.
