About
Dr. Villalobos serves as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a graduate of University Latina, San Jose, Costa Rica, where she received her DDS in 2011. From 2012 to 2016 she worked as a general dentist in the National Geriatric Hospital in Costa Rica as well as in private practice. In 2016, Dr. Villalobos enrolled in the Advanced Graduate Education Program in Periodontics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Her Master of Science thesis, titled “Effect of Antidepressants on Cytokine Profiles seen in Inflamed Tissue and Serum Samples in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis” received 2nd place in the Pennel Competition of the basic science category of the Southern Academy of Periodontics (2019). It received a Rising Star award by the American Academy of Periodontology (2020). During her residency, she also kept in contact with her home country as a guest lecturer at University Latina of Costa Rica and organized international outreach to provide dental care to indigenous marginalized communities in Costa Rica. She graduated from her residency and obtained her M.S. degree in 2019, and is board certified in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery by the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Villalobos is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. She has been learning Slovenian, her husband's native language. She enjoys weightlifting and long bike rides.
