About
Following earning his DDS in 1966 at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and 3 years service as Dental Officer at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda Maryland, he completed a combined periodontal residency and PhD (Pathology) at the University of Pennsylvania along a residency in autopsy pathology. He was appointed as Associate Professor in the School of Dental Medicine at Penn until 1975 and left to be a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontics at Northwestern University and later became the chair of the combined Department of Stomatology. In 1997 he was appointed Dean and tenured Professor at the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Connecticut and became Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus in 2010. He was a Fogarty Award Fellow, Senior Scientist at the ADA Research Institute & Senior Policy Fellow at ADEA.
