About

Dr. Schmerman serves as Interim Department Head and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics. Dr. Schmerman earned his DDS from Northwestern University Dental School and completed a General Residency Fellowship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL. He then completed his specialty training in Periodontics at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Schmerman is currently the Co-Director of the Advanced Periodontics Training Program. He currently maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and dental implants and is the Section Head of Periodontics at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in the Department of Dentistry. Dr. Schmerman maintains a clinical and research interest in Orthodontic-Periodontic relationships.

Research Currently in Progress

Dr. Schmerman research efforts include surgical exposure of impacted teeth for orthodontic purposes with a focus on improving clinical outcomes.
