UIC Department of Orthodontics is delighted to share with you that our program obtained six AAOF awards in 2025. This is yet another proud moment in our long history of excellence. We are very grateful to the AAOF for investing in developing the next generation of Orthodontists and Orthodontic Educators. Congratulations to the 2025 AAOF Awards winners:
Dr. Mohammed H. Elnagar (Center Award) for the project titled “Development of Novel AI Algorithms for Predicting the Risk of External Apical Root Resorption (EARR)”. Dr. Min Kyeong Lee (Orthodontic Faculty Development Fellowship Award) for the project titled “Machine Learning for Risk Stratification of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients Likely to be Hospitalized”. Project Mentor: Sath Allareddy; Co-Investigator: Maysaa Oubaidin
Dr. Bushra Kanwal (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Use of Big Data and ML to Estimate Hospitalization Costs for Cleft Lip and Palate Treatment”. Project Mentors: Sath Allareddy and Min Kyeong Lee. Co-Investigators: Maysaa Oubaidin and Soumya Padala
Dr. Jenna Burton Berry (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Layperson Perception of Esthetic Benefit of Orthodontics in Patients of Different Racial Backgrounds”. Project Mentor: Mohammed H. Elnagar.
Dr. Natnicha Praneetpong (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Evaluation of Calvarial Phenotypes of MicroRNA-145 Deficient Transgenic Mouse Model”. Project Mentor: Phimon Atsawasuwan.
