UIC Orthodontic Resident, Dr. Mallory Kocher, Won Honorable CDABO Resident Case Display at the AAO Annual Session 2025
Congratulations to UIC Orthodontic Resident, Dr. Mallory Kocher, who won the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics Honorable Mention Award at the AAO Annual Session 2025 in Philadelphia, PA.
A total of 86 cases were entered by residency programs from all over the country. This was a great opportunity to showcase the work UIC orthodontic residents do on a national level.
The case presented by Dr. Mallory Kocher was about a patient with progressive condylar resorption due to juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The patient initially presented with a progressively worsening anterior open bite, Class II skeletal pattern with mandibular retrusion, Class II molar relationship, open gonial angle, high mandibular plane angle, and increased lower anterior facial height. With the help of UIC Oral Surgery, specifically Dr. Michael Miloro, we were able to provide the patient with a functional and esthetic facial profile and smile. She received a total TMJ replacement with custom Le Fort I, custom mandibular advancement, and custom genioplasty advancement. Overall, we achieved a life changing result for this patient. It has been an honor to learn from our incredible faculty, Dr. Allareddy and Dr. Miloro, and to be a part of the transformative care UIC College of Dentistry delivers to its patients.
