UIC Orthodontic Faculty and Residents Won Four AAOF Awards in 2022
Another milestone for UIC Orthodontics! We won four AAOF research awards this year. This is the second consecutive year that UIC Orthodontics has obtained the most number of AAOF awards!
Join us in congratulating our four AAOF research award winners:
1. Dr. Maysaa Oubaidin (Orthodontics Faculty Development Fellowship Award) for the project titled “Impact of COVID-19 Induced Closure of Dental Practices on Orthodontic Outcomes” (Study Team: Maysaa Oubaidin – PI; Sath Allareddy – Project Mentor; Mohammed Elnagar, Flavio Sanchez and Min Kyeong Lee – Co-investigators)
2. Dr. Sara Kahng (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Accuracy of digital indirect bonding using different bracket transfer methods- an in vitro study” (Study Team: Sara Kahng – PI; Mohammed Elnagar – Project Mentor and Co-Investigator; Budi Kusnoto and Sath Allareddy – Co-investigators)
3. Dr. Emelia Karkazis (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Bone Characterization in a Novel Dicer-Deficient Mouse Model Specific to Osteocytes” (Study Team: Emelia Karkazis – PI; Phimon Atsawasuwan – Project Mentor and Co-investigator)
4. Dr. Youngjae Sung (Research Aid Award) for the project titled “Comparing the mandibles and eruption patterns of 2 osteocyte-specific Dicer deficient mouse models” (Study Team: Youngjae Sung – PI; Phimon Atsawasuwan – Project Mentor and Co-investigator)

In the last 5 years, the faculty and residents of UIC Department of Orthodontics have won 17 AAOF research awards. This is a phenomenal achievement that we should be proud of. Cheers!
