UIC Department of Orthodontics Hosted the Third Annual Thomas M. Graber Symposium

UIC Department of Orthodontics hosted to the Third Annual Thomas M. Graber Symposium in hybrid mode (i.e., both in-person and virtual) at UIC College of Dentistry on Saturday, September 23, 2023. This year the Symposium attracted over 300 registered attendees from all over the world.

Dr. Susan Rowan, Interim Dean of the UIC College of Dentistry gave an opening remark to all the participants and guests who joined the seminar either in person or virtually via Zoom. Dr. Budi Kusnoto, Program Director of the UIC Department of Orthodontics Postgraduate Program honored the legacy of Dr. Thomas Graber and paid his personal tribute to the enormous support of Dr. Thomas Graber in pursuing his career dream of being an educator, researcher and clinician in orthodontics. Dr. Lee Graber, the oldest son of Dr. Thomas Graber, gave a touching speech in memorizing his father. He reviewed and honored the life of Dr. Thomas Graber and the impacts Dr. Graber made in the orthodontic world.

During this year’s Graber Symposium, UIC Department of Orthodontics brought together outstanding Orthodontic Educators and Clinician Scientists to share exciting developments and advances in the orthodontics field. The keynote speaker Dr. Stephen Yen from University of Southern California Children’s Hospital Los Angeles presented a lecture regarding personalized medicine and craniofacial orthodontics. Dr. Therese Galang-Boquiren talked about demystifying pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Mohammed H. Elnagar shared orthopedics treatment strategies for Class III malocclusions. Dr. Phimon Atsawasuwan shared his knowledge about interdisciplinary orthodontic approach. Dr. Maysaa Oubaidin & Dr. Min Kyeong Lee talked about the opportunities for clinicians regarding specialty node of the National Dental Practice Based Research Network.

At the end of event, Dr. Lee Graber honored all the guest speakers and presented award certificates to the residents who received the Department of Orthodontics Scholarships and special research awards in 2023. We are all grateful for the Graber Foundation for sponsoring the inaugural Graber Seminar Series. Looking forward to our next Graber Seminar series in 2024.
