On March 19, three faculty members were recognized as endowed professors at the UIC College of Dentistry. Veerasathpurush “Sath” Allareddy, BDS, MBA, MHA, MMSc, PhD; Alison Doubleday, PhD; and Anne George, PhD were presented medallions for their endowed positions.

Allareddy was invested as the Brodie Chair in Orthodontics, Doubleday was invested as the Chicago Dental Society Clinical Professor, and George was invested as the inaugural Brodie Tooth Development Genetics Research Professor.

Brodie Chair in Orthodontics

Dr. Sath Allareddy became the college’s second Brodie Chair in Orthodontics, upon his appointment in 2018. The endowed position was established in memory of the late Dr. Allan G. Brodie, Sr. through the Willow Springs Foundation. Brodie, a monumental figure in orthodontics and department chair and dean of the UIC College of Dentistry, laid the foundation of clinical excellence and transformative research in orthodontics.

Allareddy is a professor and department head of orthodontics, a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the Director of Specialty Node of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network. Since his appointment, Allareddy has enhanced the department’s reputation with his clinical expertise in cleft lip/palate and craniofacial orthodontics. His research contributions are substantial—having authored over 225 peer-reviewed research articles and earning nearly 5,000 citations.

Chicago Dental Society Clinical Professor

Dr. Alison Doubleday is the college’s second Chicago Dental Society Clinical Professor, a position established by the Chicago Dental Society Foundation to strengthen the college’s mission in education, research and public service.

Aligning with the promotion to director of faculty development in 2021, Doubleday has profoundly influenced dental education. A recipient of multiple teaching awards, she was recently honored with the 2024 William J. Gies Award for Eminence in Innovation. Her pioneering approach to faculty development has received national recognition, bringing significant value to the profession. Through her leadership and innovations, she continues to shape the future of dental education.

Brodie Tooth Development Genetics Research Professor

Dr. Anne George is the inaugural Brodie Tooth Development Genetics Research Professor. A UIC Distinguished Professor and professor of oral biology, George played an instrumental role in securing the visionary gift from the Brodie Family and the Willow Springs Foundation in 2004. In addition to establishing this professorship, their generosity supported the construction of the Brodie Tooth Development Genetics Research Laboratory, where George serves as director.

A world-renowned researcher, George has received numerous accolades from institutions such as the NIH and IADR. Her groundbreaking work in biomineralization has significantly impacted the field, and she holds a patent on fibrous protein fusions. Her research influence is undeniable—her work has been cited nearly 14,000 times, according to Google Scholar.

A Legacy of Excellence

Endowed professorships represent the pinnacle of academic distinction, enabling the college to recruit, retain, and support the brightest minds in the field. These scholars and clinicians shape the future of the field through their commitment to excellence, advancing research, educating future leaders, and improving the health of our communities.

In her remarks, Dean Susan Rowan expressed gratitude for the professors’ contributions. “These professors are the stewards of this legacy, and we are confident that their impact will shape the future of dentistry for generations to come,” says Rowan.
