zoom call

Last month, the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry’s faculty, Dr. Maria Therese Galang-Boquiren and Dr. Jasjot Sahni brought together medical and oral experts to speak at the second annual Pain and Sleep Symposium.

Speakers included: Dr. Kenneth Kromash, Director of Dental Anesthesiology and Program Head Section of Pain and Anxiety Control at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Department of Dentistry; Dr. Terri E. Weaver who is the Dean and professor at the UIC College of Nursing and professor at UIC College of Medicine; and Dr. Michael Han Assistant Professor and Residency Program Director in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UIC College of Dentistry.

Together the speakers discussed various timely topics related to pain and sleep.

Dr. Kromash presented new research in sleep related breathing disorders, healthy pain management in light of the opioid crisis and the importance of pain perception in pain management.

Dr. Weaver discussed research on continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP) and the importance of patient consistency in use for efficacy.

Dr. Han highlighted the importance of jaw formation when addressing obstructive sleep apnea.

We had a great turnout with 400+ registrants and we look forward to next year’s presentation!
