Orthodontic Residents Winning Exceptional Awards on UIC College of Dentistry 2024 Clinic and Research Day

Dr. Emelia Karkazis, third-year orthodontic resident of the UIC Department of Orthodontics Post-graduate Program, won the 1st place of the OTM Innovation Award and 1st Place of BTS Resident Award during the UIC College of Dentistry 2024 Clinic and Research Day on March 7, 2024. Dr. Karkazis’ research studied the bone characterization in a novel dicer-deficiency osteocyte transgenic mouse model. The study was funded by the biomedical research and research aid awards from the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. She shared her special acknowledgement to her mentor Dr. Phimon Atsawasuwan, her thesis committee and the UIC Deparment of Orthodontics.

Dr. Matthew Rhee, third-year resident of the UIC Department of Orthodontics Post-Graduate Program, won the 2nd place of BTS Resident Award during the UIC College of Dentistry 2024 Clinic and Research Day. Dr. Rhee’s research evaluated the anterior open bite treatment strategies and outcomes using artificial intelligence.
