Ellie Park – American Dental Education Association Conference

Ellie Park - Efficacy of Disinfectants on Silicone Maxillofacial Prostheses - A Systematic Review

Ellie Park presented on March 12, 2021 at the virtual American Dental Education Association Conference. Ellie Park worked on the research project with Dr. Cortino Sukotjo (Director of the Predoctoral Implant Program) and Dr. Rosemary Seelaus (Anaplastologist at UI health Craniofacial Center) to study the efficacy of disinfectants on maxillofacial prostheses since there is no standard home-care instructions to disinfect after use. The research involved article collection from several database and selecting articles through multiple screenings. According to Ellie Park, "It was a little intimidating to present virtually rather than presenting in-person because there was limited time, technical difficulties, and less interaction with other presenters and attendees. However, it was a great opportunity to participate in poster presentations at big conferences such as ADEA and ACP annual meetings. By participating on the research project, I felt more confident in looking up articles from reliable sources and appraising articles. I hope to continue research throughout my career, and I am grateful for this incredible experience to work with my mentors and the support from the College of Dentistry to attend conferences."
