Dr. Judy Chia-Chun Yuan appointed Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs

Dr. Judy Chia-Chun Yuan, tenured professor, has been appointed associate dean for clinical affairs, effective October 16.

Yuan has served admirably in the role of interim assistant dean for clinical affairs since August 2023. Under her leadership, the Office of Clinical Affairs supported initiatives including creating the college’s first contact center for new patient scheduling, the opening of the Inclusive Care Clinic, and the continuation of the successful Dental Assistant Pathway Program.

Yuan joined the college in 2007 and has been actively engaged in numerous predoctoral courses as teaching faculty, co-director and director. She served from 2013-2020 as the director of the predoctoral implant program, intended to provide additional learning and experiences in the care of patients with partial and complete edentulism using implant-supported therapies.

Since 2020, Yuan has served as the managing partner of the predoctoral Gershwin Clinic, managing the 25 chair clinic and overseeing the clinical education of 45-50 students assigned to the group practice clinic. She has demonstrated excellence in teaching as evidenced by multiple teaching awards at the professional organization and University levels, including the 2012 Claude R. Baker Award for Excellence in Teaching Predoctoral Fixed Prosthodontics, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, 2014 UIC Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the 2022 Catalyst Award in Teaching and Learning, and 2023 UIC Teaching Recognition Award, to name a few.

Yuan is a member of the faculty dental practice at the college. In 2020, Yuan achieved a Masters in Applied Science in Population Health Science at Johns Hopkins University, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD.

Yuan received her BA from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her DDS, Certificate in Prosthodontics, and MS in Oral Sciences from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She subsequently participated as an International Team for Implantology Scholar in Bern, Switzerland.  She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, as well as a Fellow of both the American College of Prosthodontists and the Academy of Prosthodontics.

Yuan has co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers.  She has served as editorial review board for Journal of Dental Education, and currently serves on the Journal of Prosthodontics and the Editorial Council for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.  Her research interests include dental educational research, implant dentistry, and related areas.
