Dr. Christina Nicholas Awarded the 2021-2022 UIC Teaching Recognition Award

Dr. Christina Nicholas, Assistant Professor, UIC Department of Orthodontics

Congratulations to Dr. Christina Nicholas, Assistant Professor, UIC Department of Orthodontics, for being awarded the 2021-2022 UIC Teaching Recognition Award which is given to faculty for their high quality instruction that characterizes the best of UIC!

The UIC Teaching Recognition Program (TRP) is a campus-wide, faculty-run teaching award. It is awarded to faculty who have demonstrated excellence in teaching over the past three years. Applicants submit a teaching portfolio that includes student and peer evaluations, course materials, and a teaching philosophy statement. All applications are reviewed by at least three faculty.

Dr. Nicholas teaches primarily in the Orthodontic postgraduate program, serving as the course director for the Craniofacial Growth and Development and Craniofacial Anomalies courses. She also has extensive responsibilities in the MS in Oral Sciences program, serving as the Director of Graduate Studies for the MS and as the course director for the Craniofacial Biology and Dental Anthropology courses. Prior to serving as DGS, Dr. Nicholas was also actively involved in the D1 curriculum, taking part in the D1 DBCS Curriculum Group and acting as a facilitator for Small Group Learning. In her time at UIC, Dr. Nicholas has also had the privilege to teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Anthropology such as Forensic Anthropology and Fossil Humans. Her pedagogical strategies focus on creating a student-centered, inclusive learning environment. Her key goal in Orthodontic education is to build bridges between foundational basic science concepts and practical clinical applications, particularly in the area of human craniofacial growth.
