The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons at UIC in Chicago are part of a multi-disciplinary craniofacial team, working closely with general dentists, and other specialists including Prosthodontists, Periodontists, Orthodontists, Facial Pain Specialists, and UI Health physicians.

We provide a comprehensive scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery services using a wide variety of surgical procedures, including facial and jaw reconstructive surgery, implants, bone grafting, sinus lift procedures, skeletal deformities,  craniofacial anomalies, facial traumatic injuries, facial pain and TMJ / TMD disorders, head and neck cancer microneurosurgery, obstructive sleep apnea, facial aesthetic surgery, dental and facial infections.

Dental Implant Surgery
At UIC, our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons work closely with other dental specialists including Prosthodontists and Periodontists in the treatment of missing teeth with dental implant placement and bone grafting to the jaws and sinuses. Implant surgery also includes placement of maxillofacial implants around the face for attaching craniofacial prostheses and bone-anchored hearing aids.

Outpatient Anesthesia
UIC Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are uniquely qualified to administer sedation for children and adults on an outpatient basis for many types of surgical procedures in a safe and efficient manner for the comfort of patients.

Dentoalveolar Surgery
We specialize in surgical treatment for children and adults to remove decayed and impacted teeth including third molars (wisdom teeth), difficult tooth extractions, and extractions on medically-compromised patients.

Surgical Correction of Maxillofacial Skeletal Deformities
Our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons also work closely with UIC Orthodontists to perform corrective jaw surgery to correct a variety of different jaw deformities including overbite and underbite problems. This includes mandibular and maxillary surgery as well as genioplasty (chin) procedures.

Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are an essential component of a multi-disciplinary craniofacial team, and they work closely with the other members of the team, including Orthodontists. This area includes the diagnosis and treatment of congenital craniofacial malformations such as cleft lip and palate, and cranial vault malformations such as craniosynostosis (craniofacial surgery).

Facial Trauma Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are an essential part of the Trauma team, and manage all types of acute maxillofacial injuries including hard and soft tissue trauma. This includes jaw fractures, cheek bone fractures, nasal fractures, Lefort maxillary fractures, skull fractures, and orbital (eye socket) fractures and reconstruction.

Facial Pain, TMJ / TMD Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are the surgical specialists who manage patients with TMJ pathology, working with other specialists including Restorative Dentists, Orthodontists, Facial Pain Specialists, and Physical Therapists.

Cancer of the Head and Neck
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons with Fellowship training in Head and Neck Oncology Surgery are involved in research and prevention of disease, and they treat patients with various benign and malignant head and neck tumors, including as squamous cell carcinoma. This also includes treatment of cutaneous malignancy including lip and skin cancers of the head and neck.

Pathologic Conditions of the Head and Neck
Treatment of oral and head and neck pathology includes benign cysts and tumors, as well as more advanced stage disease processes, including the management of salivary gland disorders.

Facial Reconstructive Surgery
Facial reconstruction involves many aspects including bone reconstruction and soft tissue reconstruction for congenital defects such as cleft lip and palate, and following treatment of tumors or following traumatic facial injuries.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons repair damaged nerves of the head and neck with microsurgery, including the trigeminal and facial nerves.

Sleep Apnea Surgery
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons are involved in the multidisciplinary management of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, including maxillomandibular advancement orthognathic surgery, in conjunction with other physicians and sleep centers.

Facial Aesthetic Surgery
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon performs aesthetic surgery of the head and neck including rhytidectomy (facelift), browlifting, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), otoplasty (ear surgery), rhinoplasty (nose surgery), septoplasty (for deviated nasal septum), malar (cheek) augmentation, chin augmentation or reduction, periorbital surgery, neck liposuction, lip enhancement, chemical peels, cosmetic skin resurfacing, injectable cosmetic treatments including Botox and Restylane (and other fillers).
