The University of Illinois at Chicago on Oct. 28 launched IGNITE: The Campaign for UIC.
The College of Dentistry has announced its goal of $37 million as part of the overall $750 million campaign and our theme is “Changing the Future of Oral Health.” The public phase of the campaign will last five years and conclude on June 30, 2022.

The College of Dentistry on Oct. 1 sponsored a Chicago River-based Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) Tour of the Chicago skyline and a reception on the riverbank for members of the UIC Dean’s Council.
Members of the Dean’s Council are those who have contributed $1,000 or more to the College.

Dr. Daniel M. Laskin, who earned his MS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, along with two other outstanding UIC alumni, were honored by the University during the UIC Alumni Awards Luncheon.
Dr. Laskin was honored with the Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Howard Kaufman (BA ’82, Liberal Arts and Sciences)
Dr. Michael G. Durbin, DDS, MS, an orthodontist with offices in Des Plaines and Long Grove, Illinois, has been elected by the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists (MSO) as its representative on the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). The announcement was made during the AAO’s recent 117th Annual Session in San Diego.
The 26th annual University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Golf Outing, an event hosted by the College and the UIC Dental Alumni Association Board of Directors, will be held at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club, 12294 Archer Ave., Lemont, IL, 60439, (866) 264-4455, on Friday, Aug. 11. All College of Dentistry personnel, alumni of the College, other dentists, and guests are invited.
Dr. Seema Ashrafi, Clinical Associate Professor and Director, Pre-doctoral Periodontics, and Clinical Director of the Advanced Standing Program, in May was named the 2017 recipient of the College’s Jon Daniel Teaching Award, which confers upon her the distinction of also being a Jon Daniel Teaching Scholar.

Wine DDS, MS ’03; and their family visited the College recently to see the clinical operatory that Dr. Paul Wine named for his father in honor of the elder Dr. Wine’s 50th year in the dental profession and his dedication to his patients. Dr. Denise Hale, a 1988 alumna of the College, has returned as a part-time clinical faculty member in Restorative Dentistry.
“I am very excited to advise and guide the students in the clinic and share my knowledge with them,” said Dr. Hale, who is a former Assistant Professor of Operative Dentistry at the Loyola University Chicago School of Dentistry.

After earning his DDS in 2014 and his Certificate in Prosthodontics in 2017, Dr. Ghaith Darwish has remained at the College, joining the faculty part-time as a Clinical Instructor in Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Darwish explained that he “supervises students doing various dental procedures, ensuring that they are excellent and competent clinicians upon graduation,” and that he is driven to help
