Dr. Robert Rada, ’85 honored with UCP Seguin Life Without Limits award

Dr. Robert Rada, ’85, clinical professor in oral medicine and diagnostic sciences, was honored with the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Seguin of Greater Chicago Life Without Limits award at their annual gala in March, recognizing more than two decades of dedicated service to individuals with disabilities.
Rada’s involvement with UCP Seguin began over 20 years ago and has evolved into a sustained partnership that benefits both the UCP community and dental students. Since 2019, third-year dental students have rotated through Rada’s office, providing preventative and restorative care. The program proved especially impactful during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing students to continue developing clinical skills while ensuring UCP Seguin members received consistent, high quality oral healthcare in a safe environment.
Today, D3 cohorts continue to support the ongoing oral healthcare needs of UCP Seguin patients, while fourth-year students, through their rotations, address more advanced and complex cases. Through this model, students gain hands-on experience treating patients with special healthcare needs, reinforcing the importance of compassion, accessibility and advocacy in clinical practice.
This work directly reflects the UIC College of Dentistry’s mission to advance oral health through transformative education, clinical care and advocacy within a diverse and inclusive environment. By embedding students in real-world settings where they serve individuals with disabilities, Dr. Rada has created a learning experience that not only strengthens clinical competency but also expands access to essential care for underserved populations.
UCP Seguin’s mission is rooted in the belief that all people, regardless of ability, deserve the opportunity to achieve their potential, advance their independence and participate fully in the community. The organization supports this mission through life skills training, assistive technology, meaningful employment and accessible housing for people with disabilities.
