Amy Seagraves Awarded with the 1st Blair Endowed Scholarship

Congratulations to Dr. Amy Seagraves, third year orthodontic resident of the UIC Department of Orthodontics, for receiving the 1st Blair Endowed Scholarship! Dr. Chester Handelman announced the award (via facetime) and gave a short speech to recognize the outstanding leadership Amy demonstrated throughout her residency. Dr. Clark Stanford, the Dean of the UIC College of Dentistry,  and Dr. Budi Kusnoto, the program director of the UIC Orthodontic Residency Program, will give the certificate to awardee. Dr. Veerasathpurush Allareddy, the Department Head  of the UIC Department of Orthodontics, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Eugene Blair and his family for the tremendous support to the orthodontic community. The scholarship will inspire future orthodontic residents to continue their efforts in orthodontic education, research and community services.

The Blair Endowed Scholarship is donated by Dr. Eugene Blair and his wife Mrs. Pauline Gucker Blair. Dr. Blair was born on January 25, 1924 in Akron, IA. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a meteorologist, and then attended the University of Illinois at Chicago to study dentistry. After graduating with honors in 1950, Dr. Blair practiced as an orthodontist from 1952 to 1988 in Elgin, IL. Dr. Gene married his bride, Pauline "Polly" Gucker in 1947. The couple celebrated 71 years together.
