Class of 2016

Scott Drucker

Dr. Scott Drucker was raised in Florida and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and subsequently with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 2013. While attending dental school, Dr. Drucker completed an externship at the VA Medical center of Philadelphia, as well as a public health externship in Da Nang, Vietnam. In his free time, Dr. Drucker enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and hiking.



Dr. Ankur Patel was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. He earned his Bachelor’s and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 and 2013, respectively. As a dental student, he was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology dental student award. Dr. Patel spends his free time cycling, painting, and watching documentaries. Upon graduation, Dr. Patel plans to enter private practice, teach part-time and achieving AAP diplomat status.



Jennifer Shango

Dr. Jennifer Shango comes from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and earned her B.S in Biochemistry and D.D.S from the University Of Detroit Mercy (UDM) in 2008 and 2013, respectively. As a dental student, she was awarded the Student Leadership Award from Delta Dental Foundation, UDM Student Government Appreciation Award, Association of Student Clinicians-American Dental Association (SCADA) Award, and the Oral Biology Award from the American Association of Oral Biologists in 2013.Upon graduation, Dr. Shango plans to enter private practice, teach part-time and achieving AAP diplomat status. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the movies, and traveling.


Dr. Samia Suleiman comes from Orland Park, Illinois and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 with a minor in Chemistry. Dr. Suleiman graduated from the UIC College of Dentistry with a DDS in 2013. While attending UIC, Dr. Suleiman served as Vice President of the Association of Muslim Dental Students (AMDS) and the Middle-Eastern Dental Student Association (MEDSA). She was awarded the Quintessence Award in Periodontics, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Outstanding Student Award, Chancellor's Student Service and Leadership Award in 2013, and is a recipient of the Dr. Harry Saxon Scholarship. Upon graduation, Dr. Suleiman plans to enter private practice, wants to teach part-time and plans to become Board Certified and an AAP Diplomat. In her free time, Samia enjoys running 5K's and spending time with friends and family.

Sara Fagen

Dr. Sara Fagen was born in Montreal, Canada, where she attended McGill University and received her DMD degree in 2014. While attending McGill, Sara was active in organizing student events and fundraisers for McGill Dentistry’s Outreach program, a mobile dental clinic that provides free dental care to underprivileged communities in Montreal. In her free time, Sara enjoys outdoor activities such as camping, and she is looking forward to discovering Chicago’s food and music scene. 



Joshua Hassan

 Dr. Joshua Hassan was raised in Highland Park, New Jersey and graduated from Yeshiva University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He went on to attend Temple University, Kornberg School of Dentistry and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2014. While attending Temple University, Dr. Hassan was active in student organizations and help reshape Kornberg School of Dentistry's curriculum through his participation in the Curriculum Management Committee. Josh and his wife are excited to explore Chicago together. In their free time, they enjoy cooking, traveling and relaxing with friends.


Julio Obando

 Dr. Julio Obando  was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica. He graduated from University of Costa Rica as a Doctor in Dental Surgery. During his time as a dental student he performed duties as a Teacher Assistant in Head and Neck Anatomy for 3 years, served as a Student Assembly Representative for 5 years and was President of the Association of Dental Students. He took courses on Business Administration at the Hispanoamerican University of Costa Rica. After working as a General Dentist for three and a half years, Julio was accepted to the 6 month Periodontal Observational Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and spent the next year as a Research Scholar for Dr. Thomas C. Hart in Genetic Basis of Gingival and Periodontal Pathologies at UIC. Dr. Obando enjoys playing soccer, going to the beach and spending time with his family.


Alexandra Seal

Dr. Alexandra Seal grew up in Toledo, Ohio and attended St. Ursula Academy. She received an Honors B.S. in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan in 2010 and continued at the University of Michigan for her dental training. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2014. While attending dental school, Dr. Seal completed three externships in Periodontics and was awarded the Russell W. Bunting Periodontal Society Award. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and exploring Chicago with her husband.

Taylor Newman

Dr. Taylor Newman was born in Miami, Fl and graduated from the University of Florida cum laude with a B.S. in Integrative Biology and a minor in Communication Studies in 2010. In 2011, she received her Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University in Miami, Fl. Dr. Newman decided to brave the cold, and attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA where she obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2015.
While in dental school, Dr. Newman worked as a tutor in Physiology and Gross Anatomy, as well as a Teaching Assistant for the Medicine department. Dr. Newman presented her research, “Assessing the Level of Evidence in the Post-Graduate Experience at TUSDM” at Bates Andrews Research Day and won the “Peer Reviewed Award.” In addition, Dr. Newman was a recipient of the Dr. Alfred Osher, DG62, and Mrs. Suzi Osher Endowed Scholarship, given to students for “demonstrating exceptionally high standards for personal and work ethics.” Finally, Dr. Newman was the recipient of the Northeastern Society of Periodontics Certificate of Achievement award in her senior year.
Dr. Newman enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.


Farah ShakirDr. Farah Shakir is from Wilmette, Illinois and received her BS Biology from University of Illinois. Farah pursued a Master’s in Biotechnology from Rush University. Farah received her DMD from University of Illinois, where she was active on many committees and served as the president of the American Student Dental Association. Farah was also the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, where she spent a year working with the Syrian and Iraqi refugees. Farah is passionate about community service and enjoys giving back to the community. Farah is fluent in Spanish and Arabic. On her free time, Farah enjoys traveling, skiing, and visiting family abroad.



Gergana Nikolova

Dr. Gergana Nikolova was born and raised in Bulgaria. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a minor in Chemistry. Dr. Nikolova graduated from the UIC College of Dentistry with a DMD degree in 2015. During dental school she was active in many students organizations and received the Wanda Sabien Class of 1995 Scholarship Award in honor of exceptional commitment in care of others. Dr. Nikolova enjoys going on dental mission trips and has a passion for community service.
