About
Dr. John Tran was born in Saigon, Vietnam and spent his early years in both Saigon and Melbourne, Australia prior to moving to Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences, summa cum laude, and a minor in Mathematics. Dr. Tran subsequently pursued his dental training at UIC College of Dentistry, where he earned his DMD degree. During dental school, Dr. Tran received various academic and clinical awards and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) dental honor society. Dr. Tran also received the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship, allowing him an opportunity to provide comprehensive dental care for the underserved population by the Illinois-Wisconsin border for three years. During this time in practice, Dr. Tran served as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for the UIC College of Dentistry for fourth-year UIC dental students on their extramural rotations. Dr. Tran’s passion with continuing education motivated him to become eligible for the Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) and to pursue a Specialty in Endodontics. He returned to UIC College of Dentistry to obtain a Specialty Certificate in Endodontics and a Masters in Oral Sciences. His research during residency involved the role of calcium-channel signaling pathways in dental pulp stem cells under hypoxic conditions.
Dr. Tran is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Endodontists, the Edgar D Coolidge Endodontic Study Club, American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society. He is maintaining a part-time position as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics at UIC. Dr. Tran is board eligible and is currently pursuing board certification to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.
Outside of practicing endodontics, Dr. Tran enjoys traveling, hiking, bike riding, cooking, and playing classical piano. He also has three lovely Maltese dogs named Jazz, Blues, and Elton.
