Pre-Doctoral Dental Education
Department of Restorative Dentistry

The Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking qualified candidates for several  faculty positions from 60% FTE to 100% FTE (full-time) open rank faculty positions in either the tenure or non-tenure clinical track for the Pre-Doctoral education program. The Department seeks individuals with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary care and willingness to engage with all departments in the College.  Responsibilities will include preclinical and clinical instruction in all aspects of the Restorative Sciences. 

Qualifications include a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent and prior teaching experience.  Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Illinois. Candidates with training and/or documented experience in research will be preferred. For the tenure position, additional qualifications include a Master of Science Graduate Degree or PhD, postdoctoral training in a clinical science (e.g. Operative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Restorative Dentistry), experience in clinical teaching and mentoring, and documented research experience, successful record of obtaining external grant funding, documented history of publication.  Salary, academic rank and tenure/non-tenured track will be commensurate with experience and qualifications within the norms and criteria for faculty appointments in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.

Clinical Assistant Professor (Anatomist)

The Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences is seeking exceptional candidates for the full-time position of Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track).  The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction, assessment and curriculum development within the Integrated Biomedical Sciences curriculum for pre-clinical dental students.

Responsibilities include developing and managing instructional classroom materials and the dissection-based cadaver laboratory as well as collaborating with a team of fellow educators to evaluate, improve and implement curricular activities. Didactic classroom, laboratory instruction and curriculum development duties include: developing and leading large group sessions focusing on topics in cellular biology, histology, clinical anatomy, gross anatomy and physiology; individual and group assessments (formative and summative); participation in evaluating a wide range of student competencies; lead laboratory sessions in gross anatomy dissection, basic physiology, and histology; develop individual and group assessments (formative and summative) and participate in evaluating a wide-range of student competencies; coordinate, monitor and assess laboratory activities and examinations; participate in the development of curricular activities for pre-clinical students; attend weekly meetings to review, improve, develop and implement curricular activities; facilitate small group learning,  and participate in departmental and college committees as appropriate.

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Anatomical Sciences, Physiology, Cellular Biology, or related field or equivalent degree.  Experience teaching full-body dissection in a cadaver-based laboratory, histology didactic and laboratory sessions, and basic human physiology or biomechanics is required.  Demonstrated ability teaching pre-clinical dental students also required.  Experience facilitating small group case-based or problem-based learning sessions is highly desirable.

This position will conduct gene chip data analysis from various cells samples so as to assign a specific identify and quantify using suitable computational analysis.  The applicant will formulate data representations for publications of this data as well as helping to develop new ways to analyze this data.  Additionally, the researcher will develop immunoassays to identify various oncogenes expressed by cell lines.

Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s degree in science or related field, a minimum of 5 years related research experience, possessing and applying advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods, and proficiency in specific laboratory research techniques.  

Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree (Master or Doctoral) in the areas of oncology sciences, experience with statistical software and associated data outcome presentation for publication, demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, proven excellent organizational and communication skills as well as a strong work ethic.

Research Specialist - Department of Oral Biology

The Department of Oral Biology in the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking candidates for a full-time Research Specialist position.   The research focus of the laboratory is tissue regeneration and exosome function.

Duties include Gene expression studies conducted in cell culture, cell biology studies that require analysis of protein and RNA expression, immunocytochemical and immunohistochemical analysis. In addition, the individual is expected to possess demonstrated experience in isolation and characterization of exosomes from different cell types and should be able to independently manage cell culture-based research experiments. Additional efforts will be extended toward writing manuscripts.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in science or related field.  Master’s degree in science preferred.  A minimum of three years related research experience.  Possess and applies comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods.  Proficient in specific lab research techniques.  Preferred Qualifications include experience in cell culture, isolation of exosomes, exosome characterization techniques such as Nano particle tracking analysis; ability to conduct experiments analyzing RNA and Protein expression; able to assist in analyzing immunocyto and immunohistochemical data.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to write manuscripts, work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and must have excellent organizational and communicate skills as well as a strong work ethic.
