The opioid epidemic continues to be a challenge in the United States, and the UIC College of Dentistry will continue to education our health care providers in efforts to help mitigate the crisis via thoughtful prescribing practices. The College is hosting a presentation by a DEA Agent on the topic on May 25th.
“Prescription Drug Updates & Medical Provider Safeguards”

The course begins with the latest local, state and nationwide prescription drug updates which include Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, methadone, naloxone and buprenorphine and follows into the current heroin and fentanyl drug epidemic along with other emerging synthetic drugs. The lecture ends with drug disposal options, current federal and state laws followed by medical provider safeguards.

SAC Wichern is a recognized expert on the dangers of heroin and the prescription drug epidemic and routinely speaks to healthcare providers to identify methods to better safeguard their practices and reduce the professional and operational risks emanating from these threats.
