Research changes the human condition. How? At the UIC College of Dentistry! The UIC College of Dentistry has a research infrastructure inspiring courageous discovery and new knowledge. We are changing oral health forever. We are aligning our resources and talented research faculty and staff with key areas of collaboration across-campus and our State of Illinois. We have a research mission with a view to focused areas in: cancer and inflammation biology, big data and bioinformatics management, novel biomaterials/bioengineering, along with wound healing, and tissue regeneration. All of these are vital approaches to accelerate improvements in quality of life, critical to the University as a Carnegie 1 research institution. The UIC College of Dentistry is a global resource for education and research that facilitates discovery for excellent oral health care.

Dentistry Summer Student Research Award Fund

The Dentistry Summer Student Research Award Fund supports dental students who may have an interest in research, providing stipends the summer before their D-1 year. The program offers nine incoming DMD students a ten-week exposure to health research. It provides students with the research experience that will help them in their decision to become research scientists, faculty, or practicing dentists with an increased understanding of science.

The Dr. Isaac Schour Memorial Dentistry Student Research Awards provide students with an opportunity to investigate and participate in research—with the intention of inspiring them, transforming them, and giving them a better understanding of the science behind dentistry. Working in research has shown our students how to be resilient, cope with new problems, and reap the rewards of hard work. They learn how to observe phenomena and assess data and the presentation of their research helps them improve their communication skills while sharing their scientific discoveries with others.
