The research in the Zhou Lab is focused on molecular profiling of oral cancer. Our primary research interest is to utilize high-throughput genomics and bioinformatics technologies to gain a better understanding of this disease process and to develop novel diagnostic tools for head and neck/oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients. We are establishing the comprehensive molecular profiles at critical tumorigenesis stages of oral SCC development. In particular, our current research projects are to identify concordant molecular changes at multiple biological levels (e.g., DNA, microRNA, mRNA protein levels), and assess their contributions to 1) the progression of oral premalignant lesion to oral SCC, and 2) the conversion of non-metastasis oral SCC to metastasis SCC.
