First Year Residents

Dr.Shahad AlShamali was born and raised in Kuwait. She obtained her Bachelor of Medical Science degree and Bachelor of Dental Medicine, in 2010 and 2013 respectively with honor from Kuwait University, Faculty of Dentistry. Dr.AlShamali is one of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry pulp therapy workgroup. Treating children with special needs is very important to Dr. AlShamali, which attracted her to UIC’s Advanced Pediatric Program. In her spare time, she enjoys flower arrangement and event planning.


Dr. Myles Clancy was born and raised just south of Boston, Massachusetts.  He received his B.A. In biology from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.  Before starting dental school, he worked for three years as a dental assistant. He earned his D.M.D. Degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. During his free time Dr. Clancy enjoys skiing and golfing.



Hilary Habel was born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. She received a B.S. degree in Dental Hygiene from Southern Illinois University Chhabel-UIC pic.jpgarbondale. She worked as a dental hygienist for 3 years prior to starting dental school. She earned her D.D.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 2016 and continued practicing dental hygiene during holiday breaks from school. Dr. Habel has always loved working with children and special needs populations. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family and dog (Maizee). She loves to shop and watch movies.





Dr. Risa Hurwich was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised over the border in Northwest Indiana. She obtained her D.D.S. from Indiana University School of Dentistry. Dr. Hurwich’s passion for early prevention, patient education and positive dental experiences has motivated her to pursue pediatrics. Catching up with family and friends, enjoying good food and conversation and inventing silly words include some of her favorite pastimes and continue to keep life interesting.


Amy lewis_0_0.jpgDr. Amy Lewis grew up in southern West Virginia. She obtained a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Shepherd University where she was named a McMurran Scholar. She continued her education at West Virginia University where she earned her D.D.S. degree. Dr. Lewis has spent the past four years practicing general dentistry in the community health setting where she recognized her passion for treating children. When not doing dentistry, Dr. Lewis enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her husband and two children.


Dr. Jasma' McDonald was born and raised in Alabama. She obtained a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Alabama A&M University in 2010.  She obtained her D.D.S. from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in 2016.  She has a strong passion for serving others and has committed much of her dental education volunteering and organizing events aimed at decreasing health care disparities. In her spare time, Dr. McDonald enjoys watching and participating in sports and food & nature explorations.


Dr. Rami Mikati, a son of Lebanese immigrants, was born and raised in northeast Ohio. He received his D.D.S. degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.  His desire to offer children and patients with special health care needs the highest level of treatment has led him to the field of pediatric dentistry. In his spare time, Dr. Mikati enjoys cheering on Cleveland's professional sports teams and writing restaurant reviews.


Chi-Lan-Pham.pngDr. Chi-Lan Pham is from Haymarket, Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia where she received her Bachelor's degree in Biology. Following college, she worked as a K-12 substitute teacher and tutor. She subsequently earned her DDS degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C. where she was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society. Dr. Pham is excited to be joining her love of dentistry and interest in working with children at the UIC Pediatric Dentistry program. She speaks Vietnamese, is an avid baker, and enjoys hiking and camping in her spare time.


Dr. Amy Shah grew up in Rio Rico, Arizona and attended University of Arizona on a full scholarship studying Psychology and Chemistry. She then attended UIC and completed a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and received the Ann-Tschirley Gunatillike Award for Excellence in Dentistry. By finally achieving her childhood dreams, Dr. Shah practiced dentistry for 5 years in both private and public sectors to ultimately become the Dental Director for a community health organization in Chicago. In her free time, Dr. Shah enjoys finding great restaurants, listening to podcasts, and spending time with her husband and daughter.


Second Year Residents

Dr. Saad Binsaleh graduated from King Saud University at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2013. He received a position at the same school as an academician in the pediatric dentistry department and was honored with a scholarship to continue his pediatric training in the United States. He is enjoying being a resident at UIC. In his free time, he loves to travel and see the world, camping (especially Desert camping), trying new restaurants, reading (non-dental stuff ^_^), and experiencing American culture (he went to his first baseball game ever this summer. Go Cubs!).


Dr. Htet Bo was born in Burma and moved around all over the world, having lived in countries such as Singapore, England and finally settling in Canada. She earned her D.M.D from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Before that, she obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of British Columbia. She aspires to make dental appointments for her little patients as painless and as pleasant possible. In her spare time, Dr. Bo enjoys Pilates and shopping.


Dr. Lucas Carubia earned his bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Health and Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a member of FarmHouse Fraternity, Dr. Carubia held many leadership roles. He remains a Husker fan and travels every year to see a game, Go Big Red! Dr. Carubia earned his DDS from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. As a native of Colorado he enjoys snowboarding, whitewater rafting, camping, fishing, hiking and living a healthy lifestyle. While in dental school, Dr. Carubia was the vice president for Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity and social chair for the American Student Dental Association. Dr. Carubia has always loved treating children and he is a firm believer in providing the best, most well rounded care for all children.


Dr. Jaime Chowaniec was born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. She received a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences with a minor in Spanish from Northwestern University in Evanston in 2010. She then graduated from UIC College of Dentistry with her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 2015. Upon graduating she received the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) Certificate of Merit Award and the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation Award. She especially enjoys serving patients with special healthcare needs. Dr. Chowaniec strives to make every child's first visit to the dentist a fun, positive experience to encourage a lifelong commitment to oral health.


Dr. Allison Horn was born in New York and grew up in Maryland. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan. She then worked in New York as a case worker for a non-profit fighting poverty, homelessness, addiction, and mental illness. Seeing the profound impact that poor oral health had on her clients validated her desires to pursue a career in dentistry and to treat underserved populations. She went on to earn her D.D.S. from New York University where she was in the Pediatric Honors Program. She is fluent in English and Hebrew. When not improving children’s smiles, she enjoys walking, biking, and running on Lake Michigan and cooking with her chef husband.


Dr. Brittaney Hill, Chief Resident was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She earned her DDS from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and her B.S. in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, as well as going to the movies and concerts.


Dr. David McCloe was raised in Buffalo, NY and spent almost his entire life there before coming to Chicago for residency.  He received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2003 from SUNY at Buffalo.  After working for several years he switched careers and earned his DDS degree also from SUNY at Buffalo.  During dental school he enjoyed volunteering in the Dominican Republic, Tennessee and performing pediatric outreach locally in Buffalo.  When not busy with the demands of residency, Dr. McCloe enjoys exploring Chicago with his wife Deepali, daughter Laila and dog Simmons while remaining loyal to the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.


Dr. Abimbola Olutimehin,is an alumni of the University of Pittsburgh, PA where she earned her B.A in Sociology, with a minor in Chemistry and Africana Studies. She earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. Although she hails from the great state of Texas, she has enjoyed exploring a new part of the country, and is excited to be a pediatric dental resident at UIC.


Dr. Erin Shah received a bachelor’s degree with a focus in business from Columbia College Chicago.   She earned a DDS at the accelerated program at the University of the Pacific, in San Francisco, CA. After dental school, she returned to teach restorative dentistry, dental examinations, and local anesthesia at her alma mater. Dr. Shah is passionate about organized dentistry and remains active in state and local organized dentistry, serving on committees with the California Dental Association.  In dental school, she initiated and coordinated the largest volunteer effort in the history of her dental school, gathering over 160 students to provide free dental care annually at CDA Cares events.

The Pediatric Dentistry clinics at UIC College of Dentistry in Chicago offer a full spectrum of services for all children at every stage of their lives from infancy through adolescence including those with special and complex oral health needs, and patients with special developmental and behavioral care needs. Our Pediatric Dentistry clinics provide comprehensive oral health examinations, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorative procedures (fillings, crowns, etc.), extractions and minor surgical procedures, space-maintainers, athletic mouth guard, teeth whitening (for adolescents), interceptive orthodontic when applicable, and urgent care (Trauma, infection, etc.). These services can be completed using inhalation sedation (Nitrous oxide), moderate sedation, and general anesthesia.
