OMDS Hires Dr. Joel Schwartz, Pathology and Tissue Biology Expert

The Department of Oral Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences is working towards being the number one center in North America for investigation and treatment of oral cancer and orofacial pain disorders. To bring the department closer to that goal, it recently hired Dr. Joel Schwartz, Professor, to establish an Oral Maxillofacial Pathology Department and Tissue Biopsy Service for the College.

“I hope to provide an undergraduate and graduate curriculum in pathology for the students and residents of this College, and continue my research into the mechanisms for prevention of oral cancer using molecular, biochemical, and genetic technologies,” Dr. Schwartz said. “We want to develop a state-of-the-art Department of Oral Maxillofacial Pathology, help in the education of future dental clinicians, and encourage an understanding and appreciation of the newer technologies to detect, evaluate, and treat oral and systemic diseases.”
