SARIN (GB)
- most volatile of the nerve agents
- colorless, odorless, liquid
- not naturally occuring
- hazardous upon inhalation, skin contact, and ingestion (mixes easily with water)
- symptoms appear within seconds with vapor exposure and up to 18 hours after liquid exposure
- symptoms of vapor exposure include: lacrimation, blurred vision, pinpoint pupils, excessive sweating, cough, chest tightness, rapid breathing, increased urintation, diarrhea, confusion, weakness, vomitting, and at high levels paralysis and respiratory failure may occur
- liquid exposure results in localized sweating and muscle twitching
- Pralidoximine salts are use din restoring acetylcholinesterase activity following exposure. In addition, atropine eye drops and diazepam may be administered.
