COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY NEWS
  • Dr. Phillip Marucha recently was named as Associate Dean for Research.

  • Dr. Marucha will remain as Head of the Department of Periodontics. He founded and is now Director of the Oral Sciences PhD Program, which includes a DDS/PhD component and served as PI and Director of the College's successful research infrastructure development U24 grant, "Interdisciplinary Research in Cancer from the Oral Perspective."
  • Dr. Marucha's vision for the future of the College's Office of Research, under his leadership, is that it will provide research mentoring for faculty, students, and residents; identify external funding sources; link together collaborative research teams; facilitate research proposal submission; facilitate the training of future and current researchers; and provide guidance in project budget planning. He sees all of these functions in the context of leading the College to "top five" status among U.S. dental schools in research accomplishments.
  • "I believe that Oral Health research, like the oral cavity, should be linked to other areas of biomedical research and should encompass bench to bedside research," Dr. Marucha said. "Following that model, we at the UIC College of Dentistry can lead the field to become one of the premier Oral Health research institutions in the country."
