  • Dr. Daniel Laskin to Lecture on Temporomandibular Disorders
  • Dr. Daniel M. Laskin, a world-renowned oral surgeon who earned his MS in oral surgery from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry in 1952, will give the inaugural Laskin Lectureship at the UIC College of Dentistry on “Common Errors in the Temporomandibular Disorders.”
  • The lecture, named for Dr. Laskin, will be given Saturday, June 27, 2009, from 9 a.m. to noon at the UIC College of Dentistry, Lecture Hall South, 801 S. Paulina St., Chicago, IL 60612. The Laskin lecture will be given annually hereafter.
  • Dr. Laskin helped create the UIC College of Dentistry’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Since 1949, first at the UIC College of Dentistry and then at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Dr. Laskin has researched connective tissue physiology, craniofacial growth, and temporomandibular joint pathology.
  • Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at VCU from 1984 to 2002, Dr. Laskin served as head of the UIC College of Dentistry Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from 1973 to 1983. Editor of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for decades, Dr. Laskin also has more than 800 contributions to oral and maxillofacial surgery literature, and is the author or co-author of 13 books.
  • “We’re proud that Dr. Laskin helped establish the UIC College of Dentistry’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we’re proud that he began his teaching career here, and we were proud to name our lectureship for him” said Dr. Michael Miloro, Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the UIC College of Dentistry.
  • “Dr. Laskin is a preeminent scholar in the field of temporomandibular disorder and pain,” said UIC College of Dentistry Dean Bruce S. Graham. “His prolific scholarship productivity is an inspiration to every dental educator. We are particularly proud that Dr. Laskin is both an alumnus of the College and a former faculty member whose contributions to the College have been extraordinary.”
