In July 2012, Denise visited her dentist to have him check out a sore she had on the left side of her tongue. He immediately sent her for a biopsy. On August 24, 2012 the results of her biopsy were in; she had squamous-cell carcinoma (SCC). She was referred to Dr. Antonia Kolokythas, Associate Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the COD. A survivor, Denise has become an active member of the Oral Cancer Foundation, helping raise money to search for new treatements and hopefully, one day, a cure.
February 7, 2014 the Oral Cancer Foundation posted Denise' story as part of their Feature Friday Series (once you click on the link, scroll down and look for the February 7, 2014 entry).
