Prospective Researchers: Vision Statement:

Microbiolgy/Immunology:

Another important sequela of cancer therapy is infection. Radiation and chemotherapy often result in immunosuppression and dry mouth leading to development of rampant caries and periodontal problems. UIC has strengths in microbiology, including the study of biofilms, antimicrobials, caries, and periodontitis. The U24 program will make efforts to use this expertise in models related to opportunistic infections associated with cancer therapy.
