College's Wound Healing Center Awarded Official Status
- The Illinois Board of Higher Education recently approved the proposal submitted by the Center for Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration in the College of Dentistry to establish the center as a unit on the UIC campus. The Board has given temporary approval to the Center for a five year period, at which time it can apply to receive permanent center status. The Center for Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration was established in 2006 in the Department of Periodontics, and is supported by a four year, $2 million P20 grant from the NIGMS (National Institute of General Medical Sciences). It is one of four nationally designated NIGMS Centers for Innovative Wound Healing Research. The Center is under the direction of Dr. Luisa DiPietro with Dr. Phillip Marucha as the Assistant Director.
