2009 Microarray Seed Grants
  • In order to aid our research faculty in incorporating cutting edge technology in their research programs, the College of Dentistry will offer up to 6 arrays per laboratory beginning March 20th, 2009. We have developed a simplified application process that is essentially an abstract. Many of you have already thought to use this powerful new technology, but have seen the cost and expertise in analyses as a barrier. We are attempting to address both of these issues in this program and hope that it will lead to new collaborations as well as external funding. Review criteria for awards will include the importance of array analysis in the overall project, whether this approach is novel for the laboratory, and the likelihood of future external funding.
  • Purpose: These grants will allow investigators to incorporate microarray analysis as a new technology in their laboratories and develop preliminary data for new proposals (or those currently being reviewed) for external funding. The processing of samples for microarray analysis is the first step. The Office for Research in the College of Dentistry will develop and support training, workshops, study groups, and other activities to aid in analysis and utilization of the data. As investigators obtain their data from the RRC, we will organize an initial working group consisting of investigators with previous microarray experience, RRC staff, and new array investigators and their students/staff to aid in analysis.

  • Application procedures: Download and fill out the Microarray Seed Grant Application form. Email the form to Katherine Long by February 27th.
  • UIC regulations governing the use of human subjects, tissue, embryonic stem cells and animal, recombinant DNA, infections agents/toxins, hospitals, clinics and the MRI center must be followed for research funded by these seed grants.
