This course is intended for the dental practitioner who wants to incorporate moderate sedation techniques into his/her practice. The course is designed to satisfy the requirements of the ADA and the State of Illinois.

The course consists of 60 hours (may be increased to 75 hours to comply with State of Illinois Requirements) of didactic instructions and 20 clinical case experiences. The didactic portion is usually accomplished as a block of lectures given during a week. After completing the didactic portion the student must complete 20 case experiences which must be accomplished in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic and the Pediatric Dental Clinic during the next 12 months. This course is rigorous and requires a great deal of study and time outside the classroom and clinic.

The cost for the course is $7,500.

Prerequisite: An Illinois Dental License and Current BLS are prerequisites The next offering is intended for the 1st or second week of November 2009.

This course is designed for dental assistants working in dental, oral surgery, pediatric dental offices, or periodontic offices where deep sedation, general anesthesia or moderate sedation is being administered. Twelve hours of CE credit will be provided over a two day period.

The course will satisfy proposed requirements of the Illinois Department of Professional and Financial Regulation for dental assistants working in offices where sedation is being administered. The student will receive lectures and clinical instruction including: pharmacology, anatomy, physiology and monitoring during dental sedation.

Cost of Course $375 . for two days.

Prerequisite: Current BLS and Employment in Dental Office where sedation/General Anesthesia is administered. The next offering is anticipated during the summer of 2009, but is awaiting completion of State of Illinois requirements.

This course is offered to Dental Hygienists who may not have had the training to administer local anesthesia in their Hygiene Training Program, or as a refresher course for practicing Hygienists wanting to improve their local anesthesia skills. The course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to safely and effectively administer local anesthesia for the practice of dental hygiene. The course provides 32 CE credits and will satisfy the State of Illinois expanded function training requirements to allow registered hygienists to administer local anesthesia under the general supervision of a licensed dentist.
