  • The Office of Advancement & Alumni Affairs is the chief fundraising and alumni services arm of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.
  • Staff are available to:
    • Advise you of donation opportunities that can support the College’s mission of teaching, research, and public service while reducing your current and future tax liability and helping you in retirement planning;
    • Inform you of social, educational, and networking events related to the College and University;
    • Listen to and compile your suggestions for information to be sent to alumni in the College’s magazine, Vision; and
    • Provide general trouble-shooting and assistance in a variety of areas for alumni and friends of the UIC College of Dentistry.

  • All alumni of the University of Illinois are members of its Alumni Association, but added benefits are available by becoming a Contributing Member for $50 per year, or Life Member for a one-time payment of $1,000.   • The Dental Alumni Association arm of the University of Illinois Alumni Association welcomes your involvement as a member of the College’s Alumni Board of Directors, setting policy for a variety of issues that impact alumni.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to network, renew old acquaintances, and make new ones, and to make changes at the College of Dentistry.
  • Your Dental Alumni Association presents awards to alumni and students, helps publish the Vision magazine, and sponsors student and alumni events. As a director, you have the opportunity to leave your mark on all of these actions and events!

  • Did You Know?

    • The Borden Airotor, the foundation of all modern motorized dental instruments, was invented by UIC College of Dentistry alumnus John V. Borden, DDS, Class of 1939.
    • The women’s world distance record for a 48-hour race, 235.19 miles, was set in 1997 by Sue Ellen Hamilton, DDS, Class of 1971.
    • Earl W. Renfroe, DDS (Class of 1931) and MS (Class of 1942), considered the best hands-on clinical orthodontics instructor in the world for more than 50 years, was the first African-American commercial airplane pilot in Illinois.
    • Bernard J. Cigrand, DDS, dean of the college 1903-06, was the father of Flag Day and author of federal laws and customs relating to the Stars and Stripes.
    • The State of Illinois provided 72% of the College’s operating budget in 1954. Now, it provides only 18%.

  • For more information about the book Essays on Earl Renfroe: A Man of Firsts, a biography of the late Dr. Earl W. Renfroe, click here.
  • Alumnus Dr. Earl W. Renfroe often broke down barriers for African-Americans. He integrated dental care at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry at a time when virtually no other schools had done so. He was a brilliant hands-on clinical orthodontist whose international reputation enhanced that of the UIC College of Dentistry, where Dr. Renfroe was a faculty member from the 1930s through the 1980s.
  • The book The Dentofacial Complex is a compilation of a series of lectures given by the late Dr. Allan G. Brodie at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry. The dentofacial complex is one of the most vital and intricate parts of the human body, presenting the portals for food and air and the end organs for sight, hearing, and olfaction. This book is an effort to explain what the dentofacial complex is and does, where it came from, and the ills to which it may be subject. For more information, click here.
