Class of 2014
Dr. Charles DiFranco was born and raised in Park Ridge, Illinois where he attended Maine South High School. After graduating from Miami University (Ohio) with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology in 2007, he returned back to Illinois to complete his dental training at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2011. Chuck plans on joining family periodontal practices in both Park Ridge and Palos Hills upon completion of residency. In his spare time he enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife, and staying active with golf, basketball, and working out.
Dr. Erica Hsiao was raised in Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. She went on to attend the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2011. While attending UCLA, Dr. Hsiao completed an Indian Health services externship in Ogema, MN, and a Periodontics externship at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and exploring Chicago.
Dr. Andrew Monestero was born and raised in Downers Grove, IL. where he attended Downers Grove North HS. He then moved to Ohio for four years where he graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science double majoring in Finance and Management information systems. After a short stint with Hewitt associates as a pension consultant, Andrew decided to return to school at the University of Illinois Chicago for his dental prerequisites and dental degree. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2011. While attending UIC, Dr. Monestero completed a number of oral surgery externships at various hospitals and clinics across the country as well as a two month externship at the Salud dental clinics in Colorado. He also worked as clinic manager at Goldie's Place a student run dental clinic for the homeless for two years. In his free time, he enjoys running, skiing, playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with his fiancée, family and friends.
Dr. Kate Quinlin was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology. She went on to attend the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dental Medicine and received her Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 2011. While attending the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Dental Medicine, Dr. Quinlin was active in student organizations and participated in a dental service trip to a remote area in Honduras, South America. In her free time, she enjoys going to live music shows and spending time with friends and family.
Class of 2015
Dr. Andrew Carmosino grew up in Erie, PA. He received a B.S. in Biology from Gannon University. Andrew then went on to SUNY at Buffalo for his dental training. While at UB he was elected by his classmates to serve as Class President for all 4 years. Following dental school he completed a general practice residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Prior to making the decision to specialize in periodontics Andrew worked as a general dentist for 2 years. Andrew and his wife love living in Chicago. They enjoy going out to eat, walking along Lake Michigan, cooking, and hanging out with friends and family.
Dr. Panagiotis Dragonas was raised in Athens, Greece. He received his Doctor of Dental surgery degree from the University Of Athens School Of Dentistry in 2010. He completed a 3 month Periodontics externship in University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 2009. Dr. Dragonas worked for one year as a general dentist in the Greek Navy, before starting his residency in UIC, in 2012. In his free time, he enjoys swimming and traveling.
Dr. Rebecca Kibler grew up in Buffalo, NY and received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Boston University. Remaining in Boston after college, she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard University in 2012. While at Harvard, she designed and implemented a summer long public health research study looking at oral manifestations of AIDS in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. She also founded a shelter-based oral health care project offering screenings, education and supplies to Boston’s homeless population. For fun, Rebecca enjoys getting to know different cultures around the world, painting, and sampling Chicago’s restaurants.
Dr. Harrison Mackler was raised in Longmeadow, Massachusetts and graduated from Clark University with a BA in Biology. There, he studied tooth-colored filling materials and synthetic alternatives to bone graft materials at an internship at King's College London Dental Institute. He went on to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he received a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship to study immune-regulating periodontitis treatments at the Forsyth Institute in Boston. In his free time, he enjoys travel, music and stand-up paddle boarding.
Class of 2016
Dr. Scott Drucker was raised in Florida and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and subsequently with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 2013. While attending dental school, Dr. Drucker completed an externship at the VA Medical center of Philadelphia, as well as a public health externship in Da Nang, Vietnam. In his free time, Dr. Drucker enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and hiking.
Dr. Ankur Patel was raised in the suburbs of Chicago. He earned his Bachelor’s and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 and 2013, respectively. As a dental student, he was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology dental student award. Dr. Patel spends his free time cycling, painting, and watching documentaries. Upon graduation, Dr. Patel plans to enter private practice, teach part-time and achieving AAP diplomat status.
Dr. Jennifer Shango comes from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and earned her B.S in Biochemistry and D.D.S from the University Of Detroit Mercy (UDM) in 2008 and 2013, respectively. As a dental student, she was awarded the Student Leadership Award from Delta Dental Foundation, UDM Student Government Appreciation Award, Association of Student Clinicians-American Dental Association (SCADA) Award, and the Oral Biology Award from the American Association of Oral Biologists in 2013.Upon graduation, Dr. Shango plans to enter private practice, teach part-time and achieving AAP diplomat status. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the movies, and traveling.
Dr. Samia Suleiman comes from Orland Park, Illinois and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 with a minor in Chemistry. Dr. Suleiman graduated from the UIC College of Dentistry with a DDS in 2013. While attending UIC, Dr. Suleiman served as Vice President of the Association of Muslim Dental Students (AMDS) and the Middle-Eastern Dental Student Association (MEDSA). She was awarded the Quintessence Award in Periodontics, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Outstanding Student Award, Chancellor's Student Service and Leadership Award in 2013, and is a recipient of the Dr. Harry Saxon Scholarship. Upon graduation, Dr. Suleiman plans to enter private practice, wants to teach part-time and plans to become Board Certified and an AAP Diplomat. In her free time, Samia enjoys running 5K's and spending time with friends and family.
