2014 is the end of an era, as UIC matriculated its last Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) class this year. Going forward, all graduates will be conferred the title of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).
The 2014 commencement ceremony featured Dr. Mitra Dutta, UIC’s Vice Chancellor for Research, greeting the student body on behalf of the University. Dr. Seema Ashrafi, the College of Dentistry's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs extended greetings from the College. Additionally Ms. Mallory Marquie, Dental Student Council President extended greetings from the 2014 graduating class. Finally the keynote speaker was Interim Dean, Dr. G. William Knight.
Dr. Luisa DiPietro led the DDS and International Dentist Degree Program (IDDP) in the Dentist’s Pledge.
Class speakers included Dr. Thiago Vinhas, President of the IDDP Class of 2014, and Dr. Nisha Mehta, the 2014 DDS Class President.
In his written statement, Dr. Knight had this message for the class of 2014, “I extend to you our sincere congratulation on this extraordinary achievement in your professional life. You have prepared well, and with the help of the staff and faculty of this college you are now ready to enter the exciting and rewarding challenges of patient care, scholarly pursuit, and professional leadership.”
