UIC’s College of Dentistry Urban Health Program and Hispanic Student Dental Association hosted the 2014 HDA Regional Dental Student Conference. The students participated in workshops focused on Hispanic Dental Association core areas: service, education, advocacy and leadership.
More than 70 dental students from Midwestern University, University of Illinois at Chicago, A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Michigan, University of Indiana, LECOM School of Dental Medicine, Tufts University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Columbia University, University of Mississippi, and University of Minnesota participated in the conference. The Hispanic Dental Association organized the event in partnership with student, professional, faculty HDA members in Chicago and with support from P&G and Crest Oral-B.
“The conference was a great opportunity for student leaders in the region to connect and through direct interaction and in a learning environment,” said David Peña, CEO and Executive Director of the Hispanic Dental Association. Attendees reported that the conference exceeded their expectations, with 100% agreeing with the statement that because of this conference “I am more driven to promote the HDA's mission of service, education, advocacy and leadership.”
