Posted on 2/12/2014

Eighteen countries will be represented in this spring's incoming International Dentist Degree Program (IDDP) student body. This year, the extremely competitive program received 466 applications for the 42 spaces. Accepted students are of high academic caliber, hard-working, and extremely passionate about dentistry. Completion the two year IDDP program allows foreign trained dentists to practice dentistry in the U.S.

Two of the incoming students have already started research at UIC COD. Mehek Sandhu, is working in Dr. Christine Wu’s lab, and is “interested in the effects of natural products on oral microflora and on plaque biofilm formation.” Sandhu stated that, “Being a student at UIC is truly a dream come true. I chose UIC because it has everything I looked for in a school; extensive research opportunities, excellent clinical training in dentistry, and of course living in the great city of Chicago. I am excited to be part of such an astounding institute and look forward to attending school soon.”

Song Qiujing chose UIC IDDP because she was impressed during her interview by the professionalism of the COD and felt faculty and staff truly cared about students. Ms. Qiujing is “investigating the intricate Ca2+ siganling pathway that may play an important role in the self-renewal and differentiation of the cancer stem cells in Dr. Radosevich's lab.”
