Dr.Phimon Atsawasuwan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics, received the 2013 Campus Research Board award from the Office of Vice Chancellor for Research at UIC.

The project, "Shockwave effect on orthodontic relapse" studies Shockwave therapy which has been used extensively in wound healing and bone fractures on tooth movement in rat models. This study will be performed in both histomorphological and molecular biologicals levels, elucidating the underlying mechanism. If shockwave therapy effects tooth movement, it would make available an alternative approach for preventing relapse and improving orthodontic care.
