Dr. Wenckus stepping down as Head of the Endodontics, but continuing as a part-time professor
Dr. Chris Wenckus, Head of the Department of Endodontics, announced he’ll retire from the COD July, 2014, after forty years of loyal and dedicated service. Dr. Wenckus will, however, continue teaching in the department part-time.
Dr. Wenckus graduated from the COD with a DDS in 1971. He completed a GPR Certificate at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in 1972, and returned to the COD for a Certificate in Postgraduate Endodontics in 1974. He subsequently set out to pursue a dual career of educating future dentists at the COD’s, while maintaining a thriving endodontics practice. In 1999 he was appointed Head of the Department.
Dr. Wenckus’ fifteen-year tenure as Department Head is notable for the establishment and growth of the Department’s national and international reputation for academic excellence, largely due to his leadership in the American Association of Endodontists, the American Board of Endodontics, the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics, and the Commission on Dental Accreditation . Under his visionary leadership, the Department has recruited outstanding faculty, and enhanced its predoctoral and postgraduate educational programs. The Department also has a growing research program, due to Dr. Wenckus’ commitment to recruiting faculty with research expertise.
A national search for his successor as Department Head will be undertaken.
