This Fall, UIC College of Dentistry launched a program using electronic tablets to revolutionize content delivery and increasing the efficacy of small group learning. As part of the newly revised DMD curriculum, iPad mini’s are being used in both the classroom and clinic for first year dental students. The tablets, available for both students and faculty allow small groups to quickly exchange information, share findings and work together in a unique and novel way. Utilization of tablets includes assessment, mapping 3D structures of the human anatomy, case studies and more. Additionally, the use of cutting-edge technology facilitates the College’s commitment as a leader in dental education, by promoting an evidence based learning environment: the gold standard of education and practice. As an added bonus, the use of the tablets is environmentally friendly, reducing unnecessary printing!
