Externships

Goal

The goal of the externship is to provide interested Pre-Doctoral Dental students or General Dentists the opportunity to observe Pediatric Dental residents function within the residency program.

Objective

Successful participants will to be able to see the day-to-day interactions of residents within a program and also evaluate their own compatibility with this specific residency program.

Program length

Three day commitment (Monday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Friday); generally no exceptions allowed.

Time of year

No externships are scheduled during the months of June, July, September, October, and November.

Experience

  • Observation only
  • Attend classes and lectures with First Year residents
  • Attend clinic and hospital rotations
  • Rotate in graduate pediatric clinic
  • Attend General Anesthesia cases in the hospital (Friday
  • No "on call" duty

Requirements

Upon approval of the Assistant Program Director for the proposed period of the Externship, specific consent and immunization forms need to be completed prior to the visit.
